Meet Dr. Eric Baugher and Dr. Jennifer Claiborne, your Lynchburg Orthodontists
Dr. Baugher (rhymes with soccer) has practiced orthodontics since 2004 and is excited to be in Lynchburg. He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in physics before graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in 1999. He completed a General Practice Residency in Portsmouth, VA while serving as an active-duty dentist in the US Navy. He then spent two years working with the Marines of Camp Lejeune, NC.
Dr. Claiborne has been practicing orthodontics since 2006 and is board-certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Claiborne earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the College of William and Mary. She then graduated magna cum laude from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry. She completed her orthodontic residency and post-doctoral master’s degree in clinical dentistry at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
Why Orthodontists in Lynchburg? Orthodontist vs. Dentist
An orthodontist is a dentist, but a dentist is not an Orthodontist. Not every dentist is qualified to be an orthodontist, even though every orthodontist starts as a dentist. Dr. Baugher and Dr. Claiborne, like all orthodontists, continued their education for 2 or 3 additional years before receiving the necessary license and certification. Dr. Baugher and Dr. Claiborne, like all orthodontists, have spent years studying nothing but how and why to move teeth. This includes what to do, how to plan, and how to perform the treatment plan that you need.
Why does it matter if you see your Lynchburg Orthodontists?
Dentists receive basic orthodontic training so they can perform root canals, extract wisdom teeth, and treat young children who don’t need to see an orthodontist yet. Specialists receive additional training to give them the skills needed to deal with more complex orthodontic issues.
Seeing a specialist like a Lynchburg orthodontist may change your braces experience by:
- Providing more treatment options, with a variety of braces or therapies to choose from
- Having personal experience treating multiple cases that are similar to your unique concerns and anatomical characteristics.
- More efficient treatment and visits, because it’s the office’s main focus.
- Knowing that you’ll receive the best possible outcome on your treatment plan, especially if you have worse than usual bite discrepancies that need to be dealt with
- Being seen more quickly, as a family dentist will be focused on longer patient cases or emergencies throughout the day.
You may think it’s fine to have your orthodontic work done by your dentist, but convenience shouldn’t be a barrier to seeing a specialist. You’ll only need to stop by Lynchburg orthodontic offices every six to eight weeks.
And don’t let price be a problem either! Central Virginia Orthodontics is proud to provide affordable treatment in the Lynchburg area.

I currently have braces and so far it has been a great experience. The staff is very kind and helpful and the front desk ladies are amazing! I am getting married soon and am excited at how much my teeth are already changing! I can not wait for the final results! A great place to have braces or any orthodontic treatment. - Ryan
I absolutely love the staff here! They were able to get me in for a last-minute repair quickly without being an established patient. They did a fantastic job and I appreciate their kindness and attentiveness towards my situation! I highly recommend this practice! - Sarah
As a middle-aged adult getting braces, I could not have asked for a better experience. The doctors and the staff were fantastic. I am thrilled with my great new smile. I was able to schedule my appointments early in the day so I could get to work as fast as possible and I was seen promptly each time. The facilities are clean and pleasant. Everyone was friendly and seemed genuinely interested in me having a successful experience. I highly recommend CVO to other adults as well as kids. - Joyce
This morning Weston & I went to Central Virginia Orthodontics on Timberlake to replace our broken retainers. The staff was incredibly polite. They didn't try to rush us out the door like most dentists but took the extra time to make sure all of our questions were answered. And the best part: very affordable. Retainers were only $80 each instead of $150-$250 like most places. Fun touches for little kids w/ play station controllers in the patients' seats. Highly recommend. 5 stars!
