First Orthodontic Visit

Choosing to receive orthodontic care can change your life for the better in many ways, but in the beginning, it can be a little overwhelming, too. Here at Central Virginia Orthodontics, we want you to feel confident in the care we provide, and that starts from the moment you walk through our door! Your initial consultation with us is one of the most important appointments you’ll have, and we do our best to make it an exciting and rewarding experience for you. To find out more about what you can expect from your first orthodontic visit – and beyond –  keep reading below.

The first step to take in your orthodontic journey

When you arrive at our Lynchburg office, you’ll be greeted warmly and introduced to some of our talented team before receiving a quick tour. We are always excited about meeting new patients during their first visit to our office. We’ll then look through your medical and dental history before taking a few x-rays, photos, and impressions for our own diagnostic records. Once these are complete, one of our doctors will perform a thorough oral examination.

We know that the unknown can be scary, and that’s why we’re committed to making sure you understand each step of the orthodontic process. We never want you to feel rushed or that your questions and concerns have gone unanswered. After your exam is complete, we’ll take time to discuss a variety of topics with you. These include:

  • any oral issues you’re experiencing that orthodontics can address
  • if treatment is needed immediately or if it would be better to delay it
  • what treatment options are available to correct the problem
  • if any permanent teeth will need to be removed first
  • an estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
  • the total cost of treatment
  • any payment or financing options we have available to you

It’s important to us that we analyze your specific needs and create a personalized treatment plan based on your smile, your lifestyle, and your goals. It’s this approach that allows us to consistently produce superior results our patients are proud of!

Investing in a healthier smile

Once Dr. Baugher or Dr. Claiborne decide on a treatment plan for you, our team will talk you through the investment needed for your new smile. Every orthodontic patient has their own unique needs and will respond to treatment in their own way, so the total costs will vary from case to case. We will always make sure you understand all the associated costs of treatment before we begin the process!

Central Virginia Orthodontics believes in providing high-quality orthodontic care for patients of all ages, and we aim to deliver affordable treatment options that work with every budget. We offer a wide variety of payment options to meet your needs, including:

  • Cash and Check
  • Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards, in office or online
  • Financing through CareCredit
  • In-house financing featuring
  • interest-free monthly payments

We also have discounts available for cash payment in full at the start of treatment, and for multiple family members who are in treatment, as well.

If you have insurance that covers orthodontic treatment, you’ll receive the benefit of reduced personal costs. Since many insurance policies have a lifetime orthodontic benefit that is distinct from regular dental insurance, our team is happy to review your insurance to help you maximize your benefits. Once treatment has started, we can file your claims and accept assignment from all insurance companies.

What comes next

After your consultation, we’ll schedule an appointment for you to receive your new orthodontic appliance. Following this, you’ll be scheduled for follow-up appointments approximately every six to eight weeks throughout the treatment process. We’ll use these appointments to adjust your appliance if necessary, and our doctors will check that your treatment is progressing according to plan. These visits are an essential part of your orthodontic treatment, so it’s important that you don’t skip them. That said, we understand that life happens! We do our best to make sure appointments are scheduled for a day and time that’s convenient for you, but if for some reason you’re running late or can’t make your appointment, we simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible. This way we can accommodate you and reschedule your appointment so your treatment doesn’t fall behind.

Our Lifetime Guarantee

We stand behind the work we do here at Central Virginia Orthodontics. If your teeth ever require re-straightening after you’ve completed your treatment with us, we will gladly replace your braces at no charge. The only cost to you will be a monthly fee for adjustments and the cost of a new retainer.  We believe that a healthy smile should last a lifetime, but for those rare occasions when it doesn’t, there’s the Central Virginia Orthodontics Lifetime Guarantee!
